Show Me the Light: The VR Silent Disco
The VR Silent Disco is based on the idea of a regular silent disco, but with a twist. Through VR headsets and headphones, people step into another dimension where they can lose themselves in the sounds and visuals. Up to 12 people join at once, each seeing themselves and others as avatars in the same space. They’re not just dancing in their own bubble; they’re part of a shared journey.
The track Show Me the Light was made especially for this experience by Brass Rave Unit. As the beat builds, the world around participants shifts: buildings emerge, tempo rises, the horizon pixelates until the sun appears, creating a moment of stillness within the hectic flow. But the rhythm slowly takes over again, forming an endless loop of experience.
The mission is simple: connect people through music, movement, and immersion. But there’s also something else going on. As the experience speeds up, looping and intensifying, it starts to feel familiar; like our own fast-moving lives. It leaves a quiet question hanging in the air: are we still in control of our actions, or are we just being led by ‘the beat’?
The prototype launched during Brass Rave Unit’s concert at Paradiso, Amsterdam, and was selected for IFFR 2025’s Immersive Media program. The final version will be completed in May 2025.
